Vlad is now 2 years old. He is the most exceptional dog that we have ever had. He is a very healthy, well adjusted, and highly socialized Black Russian Terrier that is a star whereever he goes. His structure is phenomenal. His coat is silky and touseled. His temerament is beyond reproach. There are no words for how wonderful he is with small children, adult friends, and family members that are visiting our home. On the street, he is aloof with most, and seems to always know immediately who is a crazy dog person by wagging his tail as they approach us.  Vlad's discerning protective instinct is something that still amazes me. He knows who is a threat, and who is not. We have had instances where I have been in danger, and Vlad has saved me from being harmed by intruders at our property. I am forever grateful to Jeanne and Darrell for making such a high quality protection dog.  I will never, ever be without a Black Russian Terrier. He is the best dog I've ever had and I am looking forward to many more years of him being part of our family.  Thank you Jeanne and Darrell.  We cannot thank you enough for the role you have played in our lives by choosing us for Vlad.

I had put in an application for a rescue BRT.  My show and competition obedience male rottie died at age 6 1/2. I was ready for another dog.   I have a rescue female rottie.  However, the breeder of my dog died.  The co-breeder of that litter took in her personal dog. That breeder usually has 6 to 8 rotties.  She asked me to take that fabulous dog.  He is a retired Ch. and obedience HIT dog.  I am still very interested in a BRT as my new male rottie just turned 8.  I know I won't have him for a long time.   So, I'm thinking ahead.   BTW, I met my wife in Colorado.   I also went to College in Colorado.

I now have a BRT from DeSagres that is 1 yrs old.  She is the best dog I have ever run into.   Jeannie knows every in and out of breeding the best that there is.  She tests her thouroghly.  Temperment, hips eyes DNA. I would never go any where else.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.  Audi is now 11 months old and an awesome dog.  He is gentle, loving and extremely social.  He is my son's dog and he actually uses him as a pillow sometimes. My seven year old daughter plays tag and tug of war with him constantly.  He plays with two other puppies in the neighborhood almost every day.  He is truely a special and wonderful dog.  When we are walking him almost everyone we come across can't get over what a pretty dog he is and how social.  He has been a wonderful addition to our family.

Hi Everyone,
Things have been very busy with house and dust mite cleaning. Allergies, we are all healthy.
My settlement in the personal injury isn't going to be very big, it will increase my income, no new dwelling place for ILLYA and I.
A good friend has stepped in, ILLYA and I visit her. ILLYA loves the water troughs.
She has offered us a corner of her property for a modular home, and she will help fence that corner. Both of us are not sure what we have to do to accomplish this task, but the two of us are going to be kept very busy.
ILLYA is doing well, we still see Joey every week. and the staff of doggy day care is helping train ILLYA. They love him you can see it and their help is showing.
ILLYA's main problem is a bad case of puppy hood, narcissim, and everyone spoils him especially his person.
Have found some pictures and I keep losing them. Now I have clean, sorting and start packing.
I'll keep you posted. Rosa

Your site is a great and provides a generous amount of information about the BRT breed.  About two years ago I had to put my 11 year old Dobie down due to cancer; it had to be one of the hardest things I've had to do.  The house just isn't the same without him, like there is a big void that cannot be filled.  We still have our 10 year old English Bull Dog, a real sweetheart, but she just cannot take the place of Buckey that protected our home and let us know if we forgot to put his food on time or if I didn't hear my beeper when I was sleeping.  He always knew the right thing to do, even to allow the therapest in when I had my knees replaced and I couldn't get out of the bed to answer the door.  The BRT sounds like an advanced version of the Dobie, they don't shed, they are intelligent and good protecters. We are moving to AZ on July 20, 2012, and will be building a new home on our land in the Verde Valley. We are definately interested in adding a BRT male puppy to our home once we get settled in AZ.

Wonderful site with great information! We took about 6mths of visiting friends and 'shopping' to find the perfect breed for us! I loved the New Found Land, but dont like their droppy sad eyes, so when i first saw the BRT, i was in LOVE! Lena was 4 months when we drove 8hrs to Serbia to pick her up! Now, 1.5yrs, she is huge! Our entire Neighborhood loves her! All the children ask where her eyes are and if they can ride her!
Wonderful breed!

Love the breed.  Appreciate the effort you put forth in the preservation of the breed's strength temperment, health, and on-going attention to standards.  All these qualities make for a wonderful companion and pontential for show.

Look forward to my initial ownership of a BRT, after having raised a number of other large/giant breed dogs.

Hi Jeanne,

Visiting you all last Saturday was great!  What well-behaved dogs and puppies.  I cannot believe all 9 five-week old puppies were able to sit still for so long.  None tried to squirm away from any of us no matter how long they sat on our lap.  They just kept giving and taking the love!  What great temperaments already.  I have never known a pup this young to be so patient and ready to give love.  Each pup appeared strong and well proportioned, even at their young age.  Each seemed very smart as they figured ways to get what they wanted.  Such as going to the second food dish when the first was surrounded or four-wheeling over all those at the food dish, so they could approach the middle of the dish from above (I guess that one should be an "Air Force" dog. LOL)

It is hard to believe the exceptional qualtiy of this litter.  Thanks so much for breeding to get them.  We can hardly wait to get our puppies.

Also, thank you for allowing us to visit and help with their first bath experience!  It was great. I loved doing the photography, but am envious that Keith got to hold everyone! ;^)

Of further note is that ChaCha is such a doting mom!  She even checked on each pup during their bath and while being dried.  During the drying, she ensured their ears were clean and dry!  She then followed the pups to the pen.  At first, though, I was a little curious (not really nervous) about how she would behave if we held the pups.  There was no reason to fear, be nervous or even be curious.  ChaCha was extremely well-mannered.  While she was ever the mom, she did not give us any reason to think that she disliked us holding her puppies, even though she had only met us once before.  She does like to be loved on too!  We loved petting her as she was so soft and snuggly!

Thanks again and continue doing your great work!  It is very easy to see how knowledgeable you are as well as how much you love each and every "kid" and "grandkid"!

Of a final note in this message, I was also impressed with how little the puppies, whimpered, cried, barked or otherwise spoke.  Even though it was their first bath, they didn't even make noises during the bath or the towel drying.  Simply amazing!  YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB!

Hello, I am enjoying the sight, I have been researching the breed which I stumbled on by accident. While I was in the hospital recovering from being hit by a mini-van at a high rate of speed, therapist and the handlers of therapy dogs suggested I might benefit from having a service dog to help me with m mobility. When I start walking I encounter a lot of difficult with healthy people who like to knock me over, or run me over. There were certian thing that I need in a dog BRT's seem to have everything I need, some local trainers do not like this breed. I researched their prefered breeds, they did not meet my needs. The BRT does, so I found a trainer who not likes the breed, she has one, you are one of the two she recommended. I have an excellent Vet who feels I will do fine with a BRT.  So now I wait  for a house to sell, or settlement arrives, clean house, and learn more about puppies. Also visit this sight more. We met you and your beautiful BRT at the Plum Creek Dog Show.

We were thunder-struck by this wonderful breed. We were also impressed by your friendliness and willingness to share information about the breed.

The pups are heart-breakers.

My husband wanted me thank you for this fantastic web-site, which we visit regularly.

We got a pound puppy in October, and we are relatively sure he is a BRT, he has all the qualities, but no cropped tail (tail is BEAUTIFUL, like a golden retriever)!  We named him Kuma, which is Japanese for bear, and he is quite the family pet.  He is all personality, and is a great pillow/rugs for the kids to lounge on while watching movies.  We love him, BRT or not, but would love to bring him by some day for you to tell us what you think!

Hi! I have been studying various breeds before getting another dog since my Samoyed died of "old age". The BRT is one of the breeds on my major interest list.  I have found that several BRT breeders take their responsibility very seriously, which I admire.  I will not get another dog until I am certain that I am ready in all respects. Thank you for your interesting site and information. John

As a former owner/breeder of Great Danes, owner of Anatolian Shepherds, Australian Shepherds, German Shepherds, I have recently become interested in the BRT breed. I do not wish to get a dog as dominant as the Anatolian male we had, but I wish to find a family pet which loving, protective intelligent, sound temperment, sound physically, durable, large (average for this breed is fine), a good runner (I like to run in the national forest next to our 3 acre, fenced home), good for our climate (5,500 ft above sea level in Arizona, wide range of weather conditions), but still controlable and "reasonable".  Showing is a possibility, but not unless the BLT is really a "winner." Breeding a female (likely purchasing a female is preferred over a male) with a top dog is a goal. In no rush, not  yet sure about the BRT due  to  wish to avoid an unreasonably dominant pet after the Anatolian male (my wife is concerned about this especially).  Need to learn more about the breed, but our "Alpha" is getting old, so we look to replace her with a versatile pet who can also serve as an intelligent watch dog and protector.

What a joy to see!  After seeing one this morning on a Dog show, I came to your site--these must bring so much joy to your lives.  We have a miniature Schnauzer who we dearly love, and if we had the large space a BRT would require, I'd love to have one.  Thanks for sharing your amazing dogs with us.

Good afternoon, and happy Fourth of July, 2008!

My 15-month-old Giant Schnauzer, Junior, currently attends RiverDog Canine Coaching here in Sammamish, Washington. His favorite buddy at class is a BRT named Raz(putin), or "Razzy" for short. Since the two of them seem to have so much fun together, my fiance and I are considering whether to add a BRT to our "fur-mily".

I love the casual, tousled look of the BRT's, Giants, and also the Bouvier des Flandres, but it seems as though perhaps the BRT would prove to be a better "match" for our little boy, since he is a very active, rough-and-tumble young fur-man and would need someone sturdy to cuddle and play with.

Please advise whether you currently have any puppies available, and pricing for same.

Best regards,

Candi Taggart

Hi there, I am new to this breed, but not new to dogs or larger dogs. I was watching a dog show the other night and I looked up and saw this magnificent dog, which was similar in look to a Giant Schnauzer, but was definitely different. I quickly turned up the volume and heard it was a Black Russian Terrier. I've not been around the show ring for a few years, so I hadn't seen or heard about these dogs. I immediately started doing a bit of research, because I had been contemplating getting a giant schnauzer in the next couple of years. Now, I know I am going to do more research and hopefully find someone in Texas that will let me come and see a grown dog. Thanks for having such a wonderful website!

I fell in love with this breed after seeing them. I am located in Connecticut and really want to have one as a member of my family. I have two children, 8 and 5 year girls. At the moment we have no pets. This would be our first dog. My wife insist on me getting a dog that has no doggie smell. A coworker of mine had one and said they had no smell and did not shed. Please inform if that is correct. Thank you.
